How To Really Get Web Traffic For Free

by on Mar.15, 2010, under Website Traffic

You simply can not make money online without getting web traffic first. Everything else you do hinges on your ability to generate visitors to your site. A killer sale page, a great autoresponder email series, and even a top notch product are worthless to you until you get web traffic first. In spite of all the fancy tricks used to getting traffic like paid links, paid ads, traffic exchanges, or buying email lists, the number one traffic source will always be free traffic from search engines. That’s where all your initial focus needs to be.

1. Concentrate all your efforts on ranking high in search engine results, especially Google. If you can rank your site high in Google the web traffic will flow and you will certainly have more opportunity to make money online than any other method you might employ. Understanding how Google ranks sites is critical to your web traffic numbers. Follow the next steps to assure that your website is “Google Friendly” and they will certainly send traffic your way.

2. Predetermine which keywords you want to focus most of your efforts. Let’s say you’re a golf pro and decide to build a web site that is going to give out free golf tips. We know you can get web traffic from phrase like ”improve your golf swing” ,’how to putt’ “cure your hook”, etc. but you can’t optimize a website for all of those keywords. You need one 2 or 3 word phrase that says what your web site is about . In this case, “free golf tips” of “golf tips” would be the phrase that covers your entire site.

3. Choose a domain name that uses these keywords. Let’s say all your gold buddies call you ‘Swinging Jimmie”. You might think it would be cool to call your site www.swingjimmie.com. But no web traffic is going to be generated off of that domain name. When Google looks for site that matches a searched phrase they first look at domain names. Try this: type in “free easy guitar” in Google and see what comes up. Point made. If you’ve already made a bad choice, pick a new name and start over. It’s that important.

4. Next, your page title must contain your key words. Your index page would obviously contain your main keywords and subsequent pages need to contain the key word phrase that bests describes those pages. The fewer keywords in your title the better; just make sure that you have enough to state the page’s main focus. Every page on your site should have a different title. This another major item search engines look for to decide if they are going to send you web traffic or not.

5. Name your pages with your keywords. Do not use page1.htm, page2.htm, etc or something generic like golftips1.htm, golftips2.htm etc. Google expects unique content on each page and places a high value on your page file’s name to determine whether they are going to send web traffic your way or not. We know this to be true because that is exactly how Google’s blogger builds pages: the post’s title becomes the page’s file name.

6. Use the heading tag on every page with that page’s desired keyword phrase in it. This is a crucial step to getting web traffic that many site owner’s overlook. Again simply look to blogger to see how much value Google places on this. View the page source on any blogger page and you will see that both the blog’s title and the post’s title are placed in heading tags. You may wish to place your overall site keyword phrase in a Heading 1 tag and then the page’s keywords in a Heading 2 tag.

7. Repeat these steps with every page and every web site you build and I guarantee that you will get web traffic. And best of all it’s free.
